Join us on the weekend of 22 and 23 October 2022 to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Swiss Railways in the Central-South region and take a look behind the scenes of public transport.
When 175 years ago, on 9 August 1847, the first Swiss railway line began operating between Zurich and Baden with the "Spanish Brötli Railway", the journey time was massively reduced from 3 hours to 45 minutes for the 22.5 kilometre route. The foundation stone for Switzerland's industrial, technological, spatial, and social development had been laid.
Have you always wanted to know where the trains of the Ticino Regional Transport (TILO) are regularly maintained? On a guided tour in Italian or German, we offer you a unique look behind the scenes. Take a look inside the Bellinzona service facility and experience how the maintenance professionals do everything to ensure that the trains are safe, punctual and clean. Please note: registration is compulsory.
Numerous events organized by SBB and the Ticino public transport companies are also scheduled, such as the open doors at the Officine di Bellinzona or guided visits to the Ritom hydroelectric plant. For a complete look at the initiatives organized for the occasion, you can visit:
To reach the celebrations a special day pass is available, which can be purchased through SBB sales channels.
