Construction work on TILO routes

Extensive work on the railway infrastructure and modernisation of the stations is planned for 2023. The most important changes to rail operations are integrated into the timetable. They can also be found via information at the station and on the online timetable. The changes are described in detail on the TILO channels too.

Construction work on the new station in Minusio (affects the RE80 and S20 connections)

Construction work is underway for the new train station in Minusio, which is scheduled to start operating on 9 December 2023. For this reason, the route between Tenero and Locarno has to be closed to rail traffic from 6 January to 13 February 2023, and the connection will be replaced by buses. In addition, from 9 January to 15 June, and from 10 September to 17 December 2023, the connection between Cadenazzo and Locarno will be replaced by buses at night from Sunday/Monday to Thursday/Friday between 11.10 p.m. and 4.10 a.m.

Construction work on the Ceneri mountain route and at Taverne-Torricella station (affects the S90 connections)

From 9 January to 16 June 2023, infrastructure work is planned on the Ceneri mountain route and there will be renovation work at Taverne-Torricella station. The arrival and departure times of the S90 in Taverne, Mezzovico, Rivera-Bironico and Giubiasco as well as the connections to the S90 will be partly adjusted in different ways in the mornings and afternoons. The connections in Giubiasco between the S90, the S10 and the IR SOB are guaranteed during peak hours. Connections are not guaranteed outside peak traffic times.

There are no connections between the S90 and the IR SOB in Giubiasco, as follows:

  • In the morning, between the IR SOB coming from Locarno and the S90 towards the Vedeggio Valley.
  • In the afternoon, between the S90 coming from the Vedeggio Valley and the IR SOB towards Locarno.

As an alternative, travellers can use the connections between the TILO connection S20 and S90 in Giubiasco.

  • In the morning, between the S10 coming from Bellinzona and the S90 towards the Vedeggio Valley.

Construction work at Balerna station (affects the RE80 and S40 connections)

From 11 December 2022 to 10 December 2023, infrastructure work is taking place on the station platforms. Some RE80 trains which usually call at Balerna will not stop there. Only the RE80 services departing at 5.37 a.m. and 11.37 p.m. southbound and at 1.20 a.m. northbound stop at Balerna.

The S10 northbound at 57 minutes past the hour and the S10 southbound at 2 minutes past the hour will not stop in Balerna from 5 June to 10 December 2023, from Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays), between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Those travelling to/from Balerna should change to the S40 in Mendrisio.

The Lugano-Paradiso stop is being renamed

From 11 December 2022, the Lugano-Paradiso stop will be known as Paradiso.

In view of important changes, we recommend that all passengers check their connections on the online timetable by entering a date later than 11 December 2022.
